Harrow Vapor – Best of Both Worlds, Premium Squash Racquet

The Harrow Vapor is a favourite racquet for the intermediate players and due to its qualities, it comes at a high price. It gives the capability to deliver great power, control, and awareness on the court.

The one lacking about this racquet is concerned over its durability. It is sensitive to breaking and seems to be a little fragile. Many players have these negative remarks about this racquet that with this price they do not expect as sensitive racquet as this one.

Overall, this squash racquet has an amazing feel, great control, and a top-end option for squash players.

Pros

  • Large sweet spot
  • Stiff shaft for more control
  • Little to no vibration

Cons

  • Expensive
  • A brittle racquet with durability concerns

Harrow M-140 for Doubles, Best Doubles Squash Racquet

Best Squash Racquet the Harrow M-140 is one of Harrow’s top-selling doubles frame of all time and is the ideal racquet of several SDA pro tour players, and current world #2 team of Scott Arnold and John Russell.

This racquet has a larger head size that provides a larger sweet spot for off-centre hits. While perfectly suitable for a bigger hitting singles player as well, the new graphics on the Harrow M-140 highlight a stiff and powerful frame providing you with all the game you need play to win.

This racquet is uniform from both sides which provides great touch on when playing. It is on the lighter end of doubles racquets, which provides power through your forehand or backhand swing.

One thing that some players may have some adjusting too, especially when playing hardball doubles for the first time, is the speed of play, and thus the control from this racquet. A heavier racquet may prove better for you if you need to have control over the racquet more.

Pros

  • Versatile racquet for singles or doubles play
  • Large head for a greater sweet spot and power
  • Nice blend of power and control

Cons

  • Lighter doubles racquet which offers less control
  • Rather than a traditional “square” handle, this racquet is more “rectangular” which can feel different in your hands.

This racquet is designed for all types of players, it is worth considering that this racquet may not be exactly what you are looking for, especially if you play a lot of singles squash. Weighing in at 155 grams, this racquet is heavy for singles play. Most singles racquets are 140 grams or less.

Pros

  • Strong and sturdy to handle hardball doubles play
  • Head-heavy which provides greater power
  • No vibration
  • Great control across the racquet no matter your grip preference

The Black Knight Ion Cannon is a great racquet for singles or doubles players, with a bold black and yellow design.

The Black Knight Ion Cannon is well composed and controllable with its large hitting surface, moderate stiffness, and lightweight construction. Moreover, the weight is just about right not too heavy, not too light. Black Knight racquets are known for their strength. This racquet will be a weapon for a battle for many years.

This racquet has the best grip out of all the present racquets, although it is different than most because of its diverse edges. It is very grippy and comfortable, which is less likely to lead to minor burns or sores after a long game.

A major problem with this racquet is the teardrop design for doubles play. Naturally doubles racquets sport a shorter, but a wider head. Using this racquet for doubles play is possible due to the weighting and durability, but the teardrop design lends itself to a smaller sweet spot.

Pros

  • Awesome design
  • Durability, Black Knight racquets do not break often
  • Factory grip is fantastic
  • Long-lasting racquet at a great price

Cons

  • Teardrop design for doubles play means a smaller sweet spot

Harrow Misfit Vapor Squash Racquet

The Harrow Vapor offers the perfect balance between power and control. This has been Harrow’s best-selling model for years and almost all players sponsored by this American brand opt for the Harrow Vapor. The racket is particularly light: it weighs only 125 grams unstrung. Because of its high balance point, the most weight is situated in the top of the racket and this allows you to hit the ball hard with little effort.

What is immediately noticeable about the Harrow Vapor is its solidness: during the ball contact you do not feel any vibrations and you can steer the ball exactly where you want it to go. The relatively small racket head and the small openings between the strings ensure maximum precision for the perfect shot. The sweet spot of this racket is small and the Harrow Vapor is therefore best suited for advanced players who are able to hit the ball correctly every time. If you have a good technique and you can hit the sweet spot, you will be amazed by the control this racket offers you.

The Harrow Vapor is strung with the Barrage Pro string which has a thickness of 1,15 mm. This string gives you more ball feel, but this comes at the expense of durability: compared to other strings, the Barrage Pro wears out slightly faster. Thanks to the sticky PU grip, the Harrow Vapor remains firmly in your hand even during the most intensive rallies. The racket comes without a racket cover. This is normal in the United States and at the moment Harrow does not provide covers for their rackets in Europe either.

Characteristics

  • Balance – Slightly Head Heavy
  • Balance At – 380mm
  • Color – Black / Purple
  • Composition – Carbon / Graphite
  • Factory String Tension – 28lbs
  • Grip – Black
  • Head Shape – Open Throat
  • Skill Level – Advanced
  • String Type – Barrage
  • Weight – 140g

Pros

  • Awesome design
  • Durability, Black Knight racquets do not break often
  • Factory grip is fantastic
  • Long-lasting racquet at a great price

Cons

  • Teardrop design for doubles play means a smaller sweet spot
  • Factory grip has ridges, which is different than most racquets

How to Choose a Squash Racquet?

If you are about to buy a squash racquet for the first time if you like the racquet and feel it good in your hand, chances are probably good that you will play well with this racquet. What happens if you enjoy the game and want to progress with a racquet that best suits your playing style?

As a beginner player, the modules that are important to consider are the following:

  • The costs, the shape of the squash racquet, and its weight.
  • The budget for a beginner squash racquet should be between 50 and 100€.
  • The current average weight is between 130 and 150 grams. The weight shown does not consider the weight of the string or the extra protection around the frame.
  • The shape of the racquet head plays an important role: the larger the surface of the racquet, the greater the chance of hitting the ball.

It can be a very difficult task when it comes to choosing a squash racquet as there are so many brands, head size, weight, strings, string patterns, and stiffness. Even for the very best of players, it can be a difficult task.
